BOGUS
U.S. POSTAL JOBS
How
often have you seen ads that looked something like this in the
Sunday newspaper:
"The
U.S. Postal Service is hiring
Full-time and Part-time positions
Hourly salaries start at $25 an hour.
For employment information call
1-800-555-5555"
Well
guess what, it's not real, it's a scam. Bogus companies are
trying to steal your hard earned cash. When you call they will
sound official, as if they are part of the federal government.
Next they will promise you a Postal Job if you purchase their
job kit or pay a registration fee and pass the entrance exam.
Charges range from as little as $99 to almost $200. Once you
send the money they will usually send you information you could
get for free off the internet, but no testing information, no
test and no job. You have been scammed and robbed.

you are interested in U.S. Postal positions the website is: www.usps.com/employment/ .

CENTRAL
MANAGEMENT
SERVICES WORKSHOP
On
Wednesday, July 25th at 1:30 PM the Springfield IDES office
will present a CMS workshop for veterans interested in positions
with the State of Illinois under the governor. The CMS Veteran
Outreach Coordinator, Mac McKelvey, will conduct the workshop.
Areas to be covered include: Proving Veterans status, Veteran
preference points, Veteran hiring preference, Job Titles, Completing
the Application, Testing, 'A' & 'B' list positions, Education
vs Experience on the application.
The
only way you can get hired with the State of IL is to test for
every position they are eligible for and get an 'A'. There are
many lists out there with no veterans on them.
Come
to the CMS workshop, test for all the positions you are eligible
for, and become part of
"The
A Team".
KEEP YOUR ILLINOIS SKILLS
MATCH REGISTRATION ACTIVE
Now
that you are registered in IllinoisSkillsMatch.com you will need to keep your registration active. Without any
effort on your part it will stay active for 45 days before going
inactive, meaning you will no longer match with positions you
qualify for. To keep it active and match with available positions
you should weekly review your job matches, also review you skills
and add any you may have forgotten when you originally registered.
Make sure you Job Description is complete, the entry field will
accept 1000 characters. When you match with a position, the
business that entered to order is able to review your work history.
They can see exactly what you entered. Make sure you put down
everything that you did.
Your
Salary & Hours page is also very important. It lists your
bottom line on salary, distance you are willing to commute,
highest level of education, kind, type & shift of work you
are seeking. Many veterans miss out on good positions because
they: List their salary as too high and/or Limit their commuting
distance too short. Review this information and adjust as necessary. |
